COVID-19 RESPONSE UPDATES

Last Updated Monday April 6, 2020  12:30pm

During these unprecedented times we are striving to continue to offer you the best service we can under these trying circumstances. Please understand that we are operating with a severely reduced staff for safety purposes, and are continuing to follow recommendations that will result in a safer environment for our staff and the public. In an effort to adhere to the Supreme Court’s order, state and federal guidelines and to have absolute minimal contact, the following will begin Monday April 6, 2020:

  • WE WILL NO LONGER BE STAFFING DOCUMENT EXCHANGE at the door.

  • All business with our office at this time should be only that which is deemed an emergency or critical in nature. If it can wait until things start to normalize, please do so.

  • Our State is under a Stay-at-Home order. Please abide by this. Please do not come to our office. If you feel that your situation is urgent, call our office at 337-437-3550.

  • Customers are encouraged to use e-recording, e-filing, fax filing. US mail, Fed-Ex, or UPS when possible. Note: fax filing fees are being waved. All prescriptive periods have been halted by executive order. Please only file matters that are urgent.

  • In the event you cannot e- file, e-record, fax or mail, emergency documents can be delivered to a DROP BOX which will be checked throughout the day. If you need a stamped copy back, please enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope with your filing or recording. You MUST CALL prior to drop off with any questions regarding cost, etc. as this DROP BOX WILL NOT BE STAFFED.

  • Attorneys, if you need your courthouse box checked, please call and someone will meet you at the drop box with the contents.

  • Again, if you have any business with our office. Please call 337-437-3550 before you come here.

  • The Clerk of Court Office remains OPEN for calls with reduced hours: 8:30am -12:30pm by court order signed 3-24-2020

  • EMERGENCY MARRIAGE LICENSES will be issued starting Friday March 27, 2020. Details and requirements are listed below on this page.

  • All non-emergency filing will be accepted by US mail, electronic filing, and fax filing (337-437-3206).

  • Due to a reduced staff, we anticipate increased wait times.

  • Passport services have been suspended until further notice.

  • The Sulphur Annex office is DRIVE THRU service only.

  • We are continuing to issue birth and death certificates in our Sulphur office.

  • The Expungement Division will be by appointment only. Due to increased safety measures, we may not be able to ensure a private consultation area.

  • We have implemented our Civil E-Filing system effective immediately - sooner than we had scheduled. In addition to fax filing, this service will help minimize the in-person exchange of documents as much as possible. Due to the early launch of E-Filing, our staff are learning the system under less than optimum conditions. For these reasons, your understanding is appreciated.

  • EMERGENCY MARRIAGE LICENSES ( begins 3-27-2020 )

  • Brides/grooms in emergency circumstances must make a phone appointment by calling the Sulphur Office at 337-313-1143. We reserve the right to determine emergency status.

  • A drive-thru service will be now utilized at the Sulphur Office/West Calcasieu Annex office which is located at 500A N. Huntington Street, Sulphur, LA 70663.

  • At this time, due to our reduced staff and reduced hours, marriage licenses will only be issued if at least one party is a resident of Calcasieu Parish. No exceptions.

  • Appointments will be scheduled between the hours of 8:30am and 11:30am weekdays and are limited to 30-min increments for safety and processing time.

  • All required legal documents and methods of payment are listed on the Marriage License info page.

  • Applicants should make an appointment first. Upon arrival, applicants should use the drive through, and should have all documents ready. Parties will need to print and complete the application in advance (available online) in addition to the required documentation.

  • The application must be completed in advance.

  • No 24-hour waivers are being issued at this time.

  • Licenses can only be issued when all required documents are provided.

  • The Sulphur Annex conducts multiple services through the drive-thru and will continue to attend to those services in addition to the added service of marriage licenses until further notice.

  • Wait times should be anticipated and will vary.

  • Due to rapidly evolving changes in the health crisis, these services are subject to change.
